Mwazaro Beach Lodge, from overlooked to a luxury escape.
Mwazaro Beach Lodge is a boutique hotel in Shimoni on Kenya's south coast, about 80km below Mombasa, set on a quiet stretch of beach with a 15 square kilometre kite lagoon at its doorstep.
A true passion project, away from the tourist crowds: 22 African-style rooms, kitesurfing, kayaking and yoga retreats. The kind of place that earns the words "isolated paradise" once you are there. The problem was that almost nobody could tell that from the outside.
A mediocre website that did not show the product, and frankly looked a little scammy. Social that was not attractive enough to hold attention, so there was barely a following and no easy way to build awareness.
Most bookings came through tour operators at a low rate, off dated photos sitting on the OTAs. Stock and unprofessional images made a beautiful lodge look rundown, with no clear reason for a guest to choose it. Online, the place did not match what it actually was.
A full rebuild. A new brand and a conversion-ready website, led by a video banner that sells the guest experience before anyone reaches the booking button. Professional photography and video to show the lodge's real selling points, with writing that pulls a visitor deeper and guest reviews surfaced where they matter.
Then a social revamp: consistent, professional content built to work with the algorithm and the guest's booking journey, so the page builds an audience and showcases the real experience at the same time. The lodge stopped looking like a gamble and started looking like a luxury escape, which is the position that lets it charge more and win direct bookings instead of leaning on low-margin tour-operator deals.
A rebuilt presence and content engine that, after we took over, moved the lodge from 20-30% to 40-50% occupancy months in Shimoni, one of the hardest coastal markets in Kenya to sell.
